Great Falls, Montana – Drivers in Hill County should prepare for rapidly changing road conditions beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday as snow and 50 mph wind gusts develop across the Hi-Line.

According to the National Weather Service in Great Falls, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday for Hill County, including Havre. Snow accumulations between 1 and 3 inches are expected, but strong northwest winds could create significant blowing and drifting snow.

Rain and snow showers Tuesday afternoon will transition to steadier snow late in the day as temperatures fall sharply. Previously wet roads may freeze quickly, creating icy stretches along U.S. 2 and local highways. Gusty winds could reduce visibility, especially in open country north and west of Havre.

Drivers should slow down, allow extra stopping distance and prepare for sudden visibility drops during the evening commute. Check Montana 511 or the MDT Road Report before traveling.

The most hazardous conditions are expected late Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday night as temperatures plunge and winds remain strong. The advisory expires at 11 p.m., but slick spots could linger overnight.
