Glasgow, Montana – Skywatchers across eastern Montana will want to look up by 8:12 p.m. Wednesday, when April’s full “Pink Moon” reaches peak illumination and offers one of the clearest viewing opportunities of the spring.

According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, the full moon coincides with generally favorable viewing conditions across much of the region, though passing clouds could briefly interfere at times during the evening hours. The Pink Moon, named for early spring wildflowers known as ground phlox, is also the Paschal Full Moon, which determines the timing of Easter each year.

Communities including Glasgow, Malta, and Wolf Point are expected to have the best chance at viewing during the early evening window, especially in areas with fewer clouds and limited light pollution. Residents are encouraged to head outside before and shortly after peak illumination for the brightest view.

Temperatures will remain cool after sunset, so those planning to view the moon should dress in layers and allow eyes time to adjust to darker conditions for optimal visibility.

The full moon will remain bright through the overnight hours, but cloud cover trends will determine how long clear viewing lasts across northeastern Montana.
