Glasgow, Mont. – Northeast Montana starts the week dry and unseasonably warm, but wildfire smoke and midweek thunderstorms could complicate travel and outdoor plans. Residents should prepare for highs in the upper 80s Monday before unsettled weather builds by Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, Sunday will be sunny with highs near 85°F. Monday brings areas of smoke between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m., followed by mostly clear skies and highs near 88°F. The pattern shifts Wednesday night when storm chances increase, with rain and thunderstorms likely through Thursday and Friday.

The NOAA long-range precipitation outlook keeps Montana in an above-normal precipitation zone, signaling that the mid-to-late week storms could bring meaningful rainfall. While not widespread severe weather, gusty winds, lightning, and brief heavy downpours could affect travel and harvest operations across the Hi-Line.

Drivers along U.S. 2 and I-94 should be prepared for hazy visibility Monday, followed by wet and potentially slick road conditions by midweek. Outdoor events, ranch work, and late-summer farming will also be impacted by shifting conditions, from smoky skies to scattered rainfall.

By Saturday, skies trend drier with highs near 78°F, offering a cooler, calmer finish to the week.
