Billings, MT – A fast-moving weather system is set to bring snow to parts of Montana’s high country tonight into Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Billings.
Forecasters say the quick burst of snow will mainly impact areas above 7,000 feet, including mountain passes near Cooke City, Red Lodge, and portions of U.S. 14 and 14A. Travelers and outdoor enthusiasts are advised to prepare for winter-like conditions as early-season snow may create slick roads and reduced visibility overnight.
According to the NWS, the heaviest accumulations are expected in the Beartooth and Absaroka ranges, where several inches could fall before the system moves out by Saturday morning. Lower elevations are expected to see rain or a light rain-snow mix.
The weather service urged anyone planning late-night or early-morning travel through mountain routes to monitor conditions closely and allow extra time for delays.
