Missoula, MT – The National Weather Service in Missoula has issued multiple Winter Weather Advisories for western Montana and north-central Idaho, warning of snow, freezing roads, and gusty winds up to 50 mph beginning early Sunday morning and lasting into Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, the first advisory begins 3 a.m. Sunday through 11 a.m. MDT, with a second, stronger system moving in Sunday evening through noon Monday. Mountain passes and higher elevations above 3,500 to 4,500 feet are expected to see up to 6 inches of total snow accumulation.

Affected areas include Highway 93 from Sula to Lost Trail Pass, Lolo Pass, Essex, Glacier National Park, Marias Pass, Butte, MacDonald Pass, and I-90 from Lookout Pass to Haugan. In Idaho, the advisory includes White Bird Grade, Williams Creek Summit, and the Clearwater Mountains.

Forecasters caution that slick and icy conditions will likely develop on bridges and overpasses as temperatures drop rapidly early Sunday. Strong winds may also create blowing snow and reduced visibility, posing risks to drivers and potentially downing trees or power lines.

Travelers and outdoor enthusiasts are urged to prepare for winter driving conditions and possible road closures or delays, especially on mountain routes. Officials advise calling 511 for the latest travel updates and using extra caution on all high-elevation roads.
