Billings, Montana – Dangerously hot weather is gripping eastern and central Montana Wednesday, with temperatures climbing as high as 102°F and prompting an expanded Heat Advisory that now includes areas near the Montana-Wyoming border.
According to the National Weather Service in Billings, the advisory remains in effect from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. MDT and covers cities including Billings, Miles City, Glasgow, Roundup, and Sidney. Widespread high temperatures in the upper 90s to low 100s are expected, creating hazardous conditions for those without adequate cooling or hydration.
Residents in Yellowstone, Custer, and Rosebud counties should avoid strenuous activity during peak afternoon heat and stay hydrated. Lightweight, loose-fitting clothing is recommended, and outdoor work should be rescheduled for early morning or late evening hours. The risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke increases significantly in prolonged high temperatures like these.
This heat event marks one of the hottest stretches so far this summer for eastern Montana. Similar conditions were last observed during the July 2021 heat dome that strained local energy and health systems.
Advisories may be updated if conditions worsen. Residents should monitor local alerts and check in on vulnerable neighbors.
