Billings, Mont. – Triple-digit temperatures are expected to scorch central and eastern Montana on Wednesday, prompting a heat advisory from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. MDT. Cities including Billings, Miles City, and Sidney could see highs soar to 102°F, with elevated risks of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
According to the National Weather Service in Billings, the advisory covers a broad swath of central and eastern Montana, including Roundup, Jordan, Terry, and Ekalaka. The hottest conditions are expected mid-afternoon, with limited cooling overnight. Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor work during peak heat, and check on elderly neighbors.
The advisory spans major travel corridors like I-90 and US-12, where overheated vehicles and dehydration could pose safety issues. Residents in Lewistown and Winnett should prepare for extreme heat by wearing light, breathable clothing and limiting strenuous activity to early morning or evening hours.
Local emergency services are asking residents to bring pets indoors, never leave children in vehicles, and watch for symptoms of heat illness—such as dizziness, headache, or nausea.
Warnings remain in effect until 9 p.m. Wednesday, and further advisories could be issued if conditions worsen or persist into Thursday.
