Sidney, Mont. – Temperatures could spike to 100°F across eastern Montana by Thursday afternoon, prompting a Heat Advisory that remains in effect until 8 p.m. MDT.

According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, the advisory covers Dawson, Roosevelt, McCone, Prairie, Richland, and Wibaux counties, including cities like Glendive, Sidney, Wolf Point, and Poplar. The most intense heat is expected between noon and early evening, with health risks rising for those without proper cooling or hydration.

Officials urge residents to avoid strenuous activity during peak heat hours. If working outdoors, take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and drink water regularly—even if not thirsty.

Children, older adults, and pets are especially vulnerable. Never leave anyone in a parked vehicle. Interiors can reach deadly temperatures within minutes, even with windows cracked.

Thursday’s heat could strain power grids and air conditioning systems. Local authorities recommend checking on neighbors and monitoring for signs of heat exhaustion, such as dizziness or nausea.

More heat advisories could follow this weekend if the pattern holds.
