Billings, MT – Drivers across southeast Montana are urged to use caution late tonight into Saturday morning as a cold front brings brisk northwest winds and snow showers to the region. The National Weather Service in Billings reports that blowing snow and reduced visibility could make travel hazardous, especially east of Rosebud County.
Forecasters expect wind gusts of 30 to 45 mph, which may cause blowing and drifting snow, particularly in open areas and higher terrain. Snow accumulations are expected to remain light—around one inch or less, mainly on grassy surfaces and hilltops.
The highest chances for measurable snow include Ekalaka Hills (50%), while Baker and Miles City have smaller chances of light accumulation. Visibility could drop significantly during heavier bursts of snow or when winds pick up.
Motorists traveling along Highways 212, 7, or 323 overnight should be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions, with slick patches possible by early Saturday morning. Conditions are expected to improve by midday Saturday as winds gradually ease.
