Glasgow, MT – Arctic air has settled over northeast Montana this morning, producing dangerously cold wind chills and light snow across the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Glasgow has issued a Cold Weather Advisory through 8 a.m. Sunday as temperatures combine with gusty northeast winds to create wind chills as low as 30 degrees below zero.
Forecasters report that light snow is also falling across parts of the area, with up to one inch of accumulation possible along with areas of drifting snow. The coldest conditions are expected during the early morning hours, with gradual improvement later in the day as skies begin to clear.
“Cold arctic temperatures with east to northeast winds are bringing dangerous wind chills,” the NWS warned. “Make sure to wear warm clothing if you are going outside.”
Travelers and livestock owners should take precautions against the extreme cold. Frostbite can occur on exposed skin in under 15 minutes under these conditions.
By Monday, temperatures are forecast to remain well below normal but winds should ease slightly, reducing the risk of dangerous wind chills.
