Glasgow, MT – Residents in parts of northeastern Montana are being urged to take precautions as a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon Thursday, with wind chill values plummeting as low as 28 below zero.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Glasgow issued the advisory for Daniels, Northern Phillips, Northern Valley, and Sheridan counties, warning that exposed skin could develop frostbite in as little as 30 minutes. The previously issued High Wind Warning has been canceled.

According to the NWS, the frigid conditions could also lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure. Residents are advised to limit outdoor activity, dress in layers, and ensure vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly, are checked on regularly.

Portable heaters should be used cautiously, and generators or grills should never be used indoors due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Temperatures are expected to rise slightly after midday, easing the extreme wind chill values.
