Great Falls, MT – High wind warnings remain in effect for several regions across Montana, with gusts of up to 100 mph expected along the Rocky Mountain Front and other areas throughout the state. The National Weather Service (NWS) has advised residents to secure outdoor items and prepare for hazardous travel conditions.

According to the NWS, winds began intensifying early Wednesday and are expected to persist into Thursday morning in some areas. The strongest winds are forecast for the immediate eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains, including East Glacier Park, where gusts may reach 100 mph in wind-prone locations. Elsewhere, gusts of 60–80 mph are predicted in areas such as Fergus County, Gallatin Valley, and the Absaroka Mountains.

The NWS warns that high-profile vehicles are especially vulnerable, and travel on highways like Interstate 90 and U.S. Highway 2 could be dangerous. Power outages and structural damage are also possible. Additionally, residents are urged to secure Christmas decorations to prevent damage.

The high wind warnings are expected to expire by midnight Wednesday for most areas, though regions in northeastern Montana could see gusts continue until midday Thursday.

Authorities recommend delaying travel if possible and exercising extreme caution when driving.
