Glasgow, MT – Dangerous winter weather is expected to hit northeast Montana today, with the National Weather Service issuing a Blizzard Warning beginning Wednesday afternoon and lasting overnight into Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, blizzard conditions are forecast from 4 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday, impacting a wide swath of the region. Affected areas include Valley, Daniels, Sheridan, Roosevelt, McCone, Richland, Dawson, and Phillips counties, along with communities such as Glasgow, Sidney, Wolf Point, Plentywood, Glendive, Poplar, and Scobey.

While total snowfall amounts are expected to remain relatively light — between 1 and 3 inches — the primary concern is powerful wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph. These winds are expected to cause blowing and drifting snow, leading to near-zero visibility at times, especially in open and higher-elevation areas.

Transportation officials warn that road conditions could deteriorate rapidly this evening. Slippery surfaces, drifting snow, and sudden whiteouts may make travel extremely dangerous. Motorists are urged to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.

If travel cannot be postponed, residents are advised to carry a winter survival kit, including blankets, food, water, and a charged phone. Officials stress that anyone who becomes stranded should remain with their vehicle until help arrives.

Drivers can check the latest road conditions by calling 511 for Montana travel updates.

Weather conditions are expected to gradually improve after sunrise Thursday, but lingering drifting snow may continue to impact rural roads into the morning hours.
