Tomah, WI – Residents near Tomah may notice unusual activity this week as We Energies begins a controlled flaring operation at its natural gas regulator station, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.

According to officials, the work involves burning off small amounts of natural gas to maintain proper pipeline pressure during scheduled maintenance and inspection. While the operation is underway, residents could observe a visible flame in the air, a hissing or blowing sound, and a faint burning odor.

We Energies stated that crews will remain on-site throughout the project, following all safety precautions. The company is coordinating with local law enforcement and first responders to ensure safety and minimize concern among residents.

The sheriff’s office emphasized that there is no risk to public safety and no expected interruption of natural gas service during the operation.

Work is expected to be completed by Thursday, Oct. 24, weather permitting.
