According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 8:10 a.m. Thursday on Highway 33 near Opera Road. Authorities said a Chevy Tahoe traveling westbound struck an occupied horse-drawn buggy as the buggy attempted to turn into a driveway on the south side of the roadway.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Monroe County 911 Communications, the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, Ontario Ambulance, and the Ontario Fire Department.

Highway 33 runs through a rural corridor frequently used by both motor vehicles and horse-drawn transportation. Authorities are reminding drivers to use caution, especially when approaching slow-moving vehicles in rural areas.
