Tomah, WI – A Tomah man is in custody after allegedly breaking into a storage facility and damaging property during a late Saturday night incident, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies first responded at approximately 11:22 a.m. Sunday to a reported theft at VB Storage, 22475 State Highway 21 in Tomah. The victim reported a camper and several other items had been stolen and said the storage unit had been broken into recently.
Earlier that evening, at approximately 8:15 p.m. Saturday, deputies were dispatched to the same storage facility following a report of a suspect actively stealing items. Authorities say the suspect allegedly cut a hole in a fence to gain access to the property.
A K9 unit was deployed, and deputies located the suspect near a vehicle. Investigators say the vehicle had visible damage consistent with a catalytic converter being cut.
The suspect was identified as 29-year-old Mark A. Sayre of Tomah. Deputies took Sayre into custody without incident.
According to authorities, Sayre was booked into the Monroe County Jail on the following charges:
- Criminal Damage to Property
- Theft – Movable Property (under $2,500)
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Possession of Methamphetamine
- Possession of a Schedule I controlled substance
Additional charges may be issued as the investigation continues.
