Monroe, MI – Residents of Monroe County will soon see a new initiative designed to improve safety and communication during emergencies. Beginning Monday, September 15, 2025, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with local first responders, will launch a program called SAFE.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, SAFE is intended to help identify individuals with disabilities that may affect their interactions with police, fire, and EMS personnel. The goal is to improve awareness among first responders and ensure safer, more effective responses during emergencies.
Sheriff Troy Goodnough will provide additional details about the program during a press briefing Monday. He and other stakeholders will be available for questions and one-on-one interviews with media members at the Sheriff’s Office between 8:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
Community leaders say the SAFE program represents a proactive step toward bridging gaps between law enforcement and residents who may have unique needs during critical incidents.
Anyone interested in scheduling an interview can contact the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at 734-240-7409.
