Monroe County, IL – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department has released its Thanksgiving enforcement results following a statewide safety campaign aimed at reducing crashes and saving lives during the busy holiday travel period.

According to Major Chris Lutz, from November 21 to December 2, deputies participated in Illinois’ “Click It or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” mobilizations. The enforcement effort targeted seat-belt violations, speeding, and alcohol- or drug-impaired driving, including cannabis use.

During the campaign, deputies issued a total of 35 citations, including 23 speeding tickets, 2 occupant restraint violations, 10 other traffic citations, and 1 traffic arrest.

“These results reflect our commitment to a safe community,” Sheriff Neal Rohlfing stated. “Impaired driving is impaired driving — whether it involves alcohol, cannabis, or other drugs. Combine that with not wearing a seat belt, and the consequences can be deadly. Please buckle up and plan a sober ride every time.”

The Thanksgiving enforcement initiative was supported by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. It coincided with the state’s “It’s Not a Game” campaign, which underscores the importance of roadway safety during the holiday season.
