According to New Jersey State Police, the crash occurred Sunday, December 28, at approximately 1:34 p.m. Troopers responded to the southbound express lanes of the Garden State Parkway in Middletown Township, Monmouth County, near milepost 110.8.

Police said a black Toyota 4Runner was traveling southbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway to the left, struck the guide rail, and overturned into the northbound express lanes. The driver sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. No additional vehicle involvement was immediately confirmed.

The incident caused significant emergency response activity in the area as troopers secured the scene and began a preliminary investigation. Motorists traveling through the Parkway experienced delays while crews worked to investigate and clear the roadway.
