Monee, IL – A South Holland man has been taken into custody in connection with a sexual assault investigation that began earlier this year, according to police.
According to the Village of Monee Police Department, Antonio D. Stokes, 24, was arrested Wednesday by the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. Authorities said the charges stem from a March 19 investigation into an incident of alleged aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a minor that may have taken place in Monee.
Detectives with the Monee Police Department reported they were notified of the incident by the Glenwood Police Department and subsequently reviewed evidence and interviewed witnesses. An arrest warrant was then issued for Stokes.
Stokes is charged with child pornography, classified as a Class X felony, as well as aggravated criminal sexual abuse, classified as a Class 2 felony under Illinois law. Police said he was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, where he is being held pending a pre-trial detention hearing.
The Monee Police Department expressed gratitude to the Glenwood Police Department, Will County Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force for their assistance in the investigation.
Officials noted that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
