PITTSBURGH – Four firefighters were injured Thursday morning while battling a house fire in Pittsburgh’s South Side Slopes neighborhood.
According to the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire, crews were dispatched just before 8:15 a.m. to the 100 block of Monastery Avenue for reports of a structure fire. When firefighters arrived, smoke and flames were visible from the roof of a three-story residence. The house was unoccupied at the time.
A second alarm was struck shortly after 9 a.m., and the blaze was brought under control by approximately 9:45 a.m., authorities said.
While working inside the home, four firefighters allegedly came into contact with an electrical current when a firetruck ladder crashed on a power line. They were transported by Pittsburgh EMS to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation. All four remain in stable condition and are expected to be released soon.
Investigators said the fire appears to have started toward the rear of the building. The Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire’s Investigation Unit is working to determine the exact cause.
The fire was contained to the single structure, and no civilian injuries were reported.
