Moline, IL – Fire crews in Moline responded to a significant structure fire early Wednesday morning, after a vacant 2½-story home on 7th Avenue erupted in flames, according to the Moline Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched around 12:07 a.m. Wednesday and arrived within minutes, finding heavy fire pouring from the first floor and spreading rapidly to the second story. Crews immediately launched an aggressive interior attack while additional firefighters secured water supply lines and assisted with suppression efforts.
Due to intense heat and heavy smoke, occupants of nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution. Fire officials said the blaze had advanced into the second floor and attic before crews arrived, compromising interior conditions. As the building’s structural integrity deteriorated, firefighters were ordered to exit and transition to a defensive strategy.
Crews remained on scene for several hours to extinguish hotspots and ensure no smoldering areas remained. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
Assistance was provided by the Rock Island Fire Department, East Moline Fire Department, and the Rock Island Arsenal Fire Department. Moline Police handled traffic control, and MidAmerican Energy confirmed utilities were secured while supporting power line management for aerial operations.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Moline Fire Department Bureau of Investigations at 309-524-2250.
