Mokena, IL – A temporary road and railroad crossing closure is scheduled for Schoolhouse Road this Friday morning in Mokena.
According to the Mokena Police Department, the Village of Mokena’s Public Works will shut down the road and crossing between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Friday, August 1, to complete reinstallation of quiet zone barriers. The brief closure is necessary to finalize safety measures that prevent train horn noise in designated quiet zones.
The affected section lies along a key corridor for both local and commuter traffic. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes during the two-hour window and plan ahead for delays.
Quiet zones are established areas where train horns are not routinely sounded, improving quality of life for residents while maintaining strict safety standards. The reinstallation work on Schoolhouse Road is part of broader infrastructure improvements aimed at maintaining these standards.
The Mokena Police Department thanked residents for their patience and understanding during the planned closure.
