Las Vegas, Nev. – Powerful winds are set to sweep across southern Nevada and inland Southern California on Friday, with gusts topping 50 mph in the mountains and desert valleys, making travel difficult and raising the risk of power outages.

According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, wind advisories are in effect from early Friday morning through late evening for the Spring Mountains, Red Rock Canyon, and wide stretches of the Mojave Desert. Southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph, are expected near Mount Charleston and Red Rock through 8 p.m. Friday.

In California’s Mojave Desert, gusts near 45 mph will impact Barstow, Fort Irwin, and Daggett from morning through late evening. Later in the day, winds will spread into the Morongo Basin, with Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms under an advisory from Friday evening until early Saturday. Officials warn that unsecured objects could be blown around, tree limbs may snap, and pockets of blowing dust could make highways hazardous, especially along I-15 and Highway 62.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture, avoid unnecessary travel in high-profile vehicles, and prepare for possible power interruptions.

Wind advisories remain in place across the region until late Friday night, with calmer conditions expected to return by Saturday.
