Hanford, CA – Strong winds could return to parts of Southern California this week as a system moves across the Mojave Desert Slopes, according to the National Weather Service in Hanford.
Forecasters say there’s a 40 to 50 percent probability that wind gusts will exceed 40 mph on Wednesday, October 22, particularly along California Highways 14 and 58 and in the town of Mojave.
According to the weather service, these gusts could create hazardous driving conditions for high-profile vehicles and lead to areas of blowing dust in open desert terrain. The strongest winds are expected Wednesday afternoon and evening before tapering off overnight.
Motorists traveling through Tehachapi Pass, Mojave, Rosamond, and Edwards AFB areas are urged to use caution and secure loose outdoor objects ahead of time.
Calmer and cooler conditions are forecast to return late in the week as the system exits the region.
