Ridgecrest, Calif. – Triple-digit heat continues to grip California’s high desert, with temperatures peaking near 111 degrees and little overnight relief until Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service warns the combination of scorching days and warm nights could significantly increase the risk of heat-related illness.

According to the NWS Hanford office, the Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect for the Indian Wells Valley, Mojave Desert Slopes, and broader Mojave Desert region, including Ridgecrest, California City, Edwards AFB, and Mojave. The alert will hold until 8 a.m. Wednesday, with overnight lows hovering in the lower 80s.

Local officials urge residents to limit outdoor activities to early morning or evening, stay hydrated, and use air conditioning when possible. Vulnerable populations—especially the elderly, young children, and those without cooling—are at highest risk. Pets and children should never be left in vehicles, as interiors can reach lethal temperatures within minutes.

Relief may come midweek as highs gradually ease, but heat safety measures remain critical until then.
