Hanford, CA – Strong winds are expected to impact parts of the Mojave Desert Slopes midweek as a passing weather system strengthens across southern California, according to the National Weather Service in Hanford.
Forecasters report a 60–70% probability of wind gusts exceeding 40 miles per hour on Wednesday, October 22, particularly along California Highways 14 and 58, and through the town of Mojave. The strongest gusts are anticipated in the afternoon and evening hours.
Meteorologists warn that blowing dust and reduced visibility may affect travel through desert passes and open stretches of highway. Light, high-profile vehicles — including trucks, RVs, and trailers — should use caution when crossing exposed desert routes.
Winds are expected to gradually weaken overnight into Thursday, with calmer conditions returning late in the week.
