Springfield, MO – A mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is making roads dangerous across southwest Missouri, with conditions expected to worsen overnight. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until noon Tuesday, warning of ice accumulation up to a tenth of an inch and up to an inch of snow.

According to the NWS, travel along I-44 and Highway 60 could be hazardous, with slick roads and possible ice buildup. Winds up to 22 mph will create wind chills as low as 26°F Tuesday morning. Rain and freezing rain will persist into the afternoon before transitioning to snow Tuesday night.

By Wednesday, another storm system is expected, bringing additional snowfall and potential ice, particularly along the Highway 54 corridor. Morning temperatures will remain in the low 20s, with wind chills in the teens.

Drivers are urged to use caution, reduce speeds, and check for road closures before traveling. The Missouri Department of Transportation advises carrying emergency supplies, as patchy fog and freezing drizzle could create sudden visibility issues overnight.

Warmer temperatures are forecasted by Friday, but until then, expect icy conditions and possible school or business closures. Stay updated with local weather alerts and prepare for hazardous travel.
