Springfield, MO – A spring storm system will move into southwest Missouri late Saturday night, bringing thunderstorms, gusty winds, and elevated fire danger through Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, the first round of showers and thunderstorms is expected to begin between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. Sunday. The strongest storms could produce large hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph, especially along and north of Highway 60. While the chance of severe weather is low (around 5%), residents should remain alert overnight.

Dry conditions and breezy winds will persist throughout Sunday afternoon, raising concerns about fire safety. Relative humidity values may dip as low as 20% across the Missouri Ozarks, with gusts topping 20 mph. Fire risk will remain elevated through Tuesday, particularly in areas such as Christian, Howell, and Douglas counties.

Sunday’s high will reach around 67°F, with cooler temperatures overnight. Monday and Tuesday will see calmer skies with mostly sunny conditions and highs in the upper 60s and low 70s.

Residents should avoid outdoor burning, secure loose items, and prepare for possible storm-related disruptions through Sunday morning. Use caution when traveling along Highway 60, as conditions could change rapidly during overnight hours.

Looking ahead, Springfield will experience mostly sunny weather into midweek, with highs near 72°F Wednesday and Thursday. Rain chances return Friday, closing out an active spring week. For updates, visit weather.gov/sgf.
