Kansas City, Missouri – Missourians should brace for a prolonged and dangerous stretch of heat beginning Friday and intensifying through early next week, with heat index values expected to exceed 100°F daily across much of western and central Missouri.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, the most extreme heat will arrive Monday and Tuesday, with areas like Boonville, Butler, and Sedalia forecast to feel as hot as 105°F. Kansas City could hit a heat index of 104°F by 6 p.m. Tuesday, while St. Joseph, Macon, and Warrensburg are all projected to top 100°F for multiple consecutive afternoons.
From Maryville down to Butler, the combination of high humidity and temperatures in the 90s will create increasingly oppressive conditions. Outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours may pose serious health risks, especially for vulnerable populations. Residents are urged to avoid strenuous work outside, stay hydrated, and check on neighbors without air conditioning.
Cooling centers may be activated in counties facing prolonged heat above 100°F. Commuters should expect slowdowns as pavement temperatures soar. This heat wave comes earlier than usual and may rival similar July events from 2022.
Extreme heat remains in the forecast through at least Tuesday night, with more advisories likely to be issued.
