St. Louis, MO – The National Weather Service in St. Louis reports that widespread, significant rainfall fell across the region on Saturday, October 18, helping to relieve ongoing drought conditions that developed during late summer.
According to the National Weather Service, rainfall totals varied widely, ranging from 0.25 to 0.50 inches in portions of northeast Missouri and west-central Illinois to over 4 inches in the heaviest-hit areas of east-central Missouri and south-central Illinois.
Notable rainfall reports include Trenton, IL with 4.28 inches, Lebanon, IL with 4.25 inches, and Columbia, IL recording 4.00 inches. Lighter, yet still beneficial rainfall was observed across Arnold, MO and other nearby communities.
Forecasters say the rain has helped to replenish soil moisture and improve short-term drought impacts, particularly in agricultural zones. While no additional heavy rainfall is expected early this week, more moderate showers could return later in the month.
