Springfield, Missouri – Drivers across southern Missouri may face scattered thunderstorms and localized heavy rainfall this afternoon and evening, with the highest storm chances targeting areas from Springfield to Branson and Joplin.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, thunderstorm chances stand at 30–50% across the region today, with temperatures peaking between 84 and 89 degrees. Localized heavy rain is possible, especially south of Interstate 44. Overnight, isolated showers and storms remain possible, though chances drop to 10–30% as lows settle in the upper 60s to low 70s.

Residents in Greene, Christian, and Taney counties should watch for sudden downpours that could lead to brief street flooding. US-65, MO-13, and area highways may see water pooling during heavy rainfall, increasing the risk for hydroplaning and slow commutes. Power outages can’t be ruled out if gusty winds accompany storms.

Preparedness tips include: keeping mobile devices charged, delaying non-essential travel during storms, and monitoring local alerts. Rain gear is a must for anyone out late tonight, and extra caution is advised near creeks and low-lying roads.

Rain and thunderstorm chances will continue daily through Saturday, with the lowest odds (10–30%) on Thursday and warmer highs approaching 90 degrees each afternoon. More advisories may follow if flooding or severe storms develop.
