Springfield, MO – Residents across southwest Missouri can expect a steady stretch of unusually warm weather this week, with highs holding in the mid-80s through Thursday. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Springfield reports that temperatures are running about 10 degrees above average for late September.
According to the NWS forecast issued early Sunday, September 28, 2025, conditions will remain dry with little variation from day to day. Clear skies and light winds are expected, creating a persistence pattern that will continue through at least Thursday. Normal highs for this time of year are in the mid-70s, but afternoon temperatures will stay closer to 85–87 degrees across the region.
Overnight lows will dip into the upper 50s and lower 60s, which is still above average for late September. Meteorologists note that the combination of warm days and mild nights could extend late-season outdoor activities, but also encourage residents to monitor hydration and sun exposure during peak afternoon hours.
While no rain is in the immediate forecast, the NWS says the extended dry spell could begin stressing soil moisture and lawns across southwest Missouri. Farmers and gardeners may want to plan irrigation as needed heading into October.
This persistent warmth comes as much of the central United States continues to experience summerlike conditions later than usual, with a gradual cooldown not expected until early October.
