KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fall warmth across Missouri will come to a sudden end late this week as a strong cold front pushes through, sending temperatures tumbling into the 40s by Sunday. The National Weather Service in Kansas City said highs near 70 degrees Friday will be replaced by a much colder air mass moving in behind a passing front.
According to the NWS Kansas City office, showers will begin to develop late Thursday night into early Friday, mainly for areas north and east of I-35. Rain will likely linger into Friday morning, tapering by midday as the front sweeps south. Additional light rain could redevelop Saturday across north-central and northeast Missouri before clearing sets in late in the weekend.
Forecasters say temperatures will fall rapidly behind the front, dropping from the upper 60s and low 70s Friday to the low 40s by Sunday. Gusty northwest winds will add an extra chill, marking the region’s first widespread below-normal readings in weeks.
Drivers and outdoor event planners should prepare for the cooler change and wet roads early Friday. Residents are urged to layer up for weekend outdoor activities as wind chills could dip into the 30s Sunday morning.
