Kansas City, MO – Missouri is set to plunge into a sharply colder stretch as an Arctic Blast spreads across the central U.S. from Monday, Dec. 1 through Friday, Dec. 5, bringing a Cold December pattern featuring light snow, single-digit temperatures, and the potential for subzero wind chills across northern portions of the state.
According to the National Weather Service, early-week disturbances tied to the arriving Arctic air mass will bring light snow and flurries, especially across northern and central Missouri. While snowfall totals should remain light, slick roads and brief periods of reduced visibility are possible during morning and evening commutes.
Temperatures will fall into the teens and single digits statewide, with subzero wind chills most likely north of I-70. Kansas City may see wind chills between 0°F and –10°F, while northern Missouri could experience readings between –10°F and –20°F during the coldest early-morning hours.
The cold pattern lines up with NOAA’s 6–10 Day Temperature Outlook, which places Missouri in a solid below-normal temperature zone through Dec. 1–5. Persistent northwest flow behind the Arctic front may generate periodic flurries or light snow showers, particularly across northern counties.
While no major winter storm is anticipated, the combination of bitter wind chills, icy roads, and scattered snow showers may create hazardous travel at times throughout the week. Residents are urged to monitor updated NWS advisories as the Arctic cold settles in.
