Kansas City, Missouri – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from midnight Friday through 6 p.m. Sunday for much of northern Missouri, with accumulating snow expected to create slippery and hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, total snowfall accumulations between 3 and 5 inches are expected across portions of north-central, northeast, and northwest Missouri. The advisory includes areas such as Maryville, Kirksville, Moberly, Macon, Trenton, Bethany, Brookfield, and surrounding communities.
Snow is expected to begin overnight and continue at times through the weekend, with road conditions deteriorating as accumulation increases. While snowfall rates are not expected to be extreme, the prolonged duration of the event may lead to persistent slick conditions on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.
Forecasters say travel impacts are most likely during the overnight and early morning hours, as well as during periods of steadier snowfall. Roads may remain slick even after snowfall tapers off, especially in rural areas.
Residents are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling. Motorists should allow extra stopping distance and be prepared for changing road conditions throughout the weekend.
Drivers can check the latest Missouri road conditions at traveler.modot.org or by calling 511. Those traveling between Missouri and Kansas should also monitor updates from both state transportation agencies.
Commuters, weekend travelers, and residents across northern Missouri should plan for winter driving conditions through Sunday evening.
