Springfield, Mo. – Residents across western and central Missouri should brace for damaging wind gusts and localized flash flooding after 9 p.m. Friday, as strong thunderstorms move through the region. Areas from northwest of Pittsburg, Kansas, to Osage Beach fall under a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) severe storm risk through early Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, storms could produce wind gusts up to 60 mph along with periods of heavy rainfall. The primary window for hazardous weather begins after 9 p.m., with the strongest cells expected overnight. Frequent lightning is also a concern, especially in counties including Vernon, Bates, and Benton.

Drivers are urged to avoid low-lying roads, especially in areas prone to flash flooding. Residents in cities like Nevada, Clinton, and Stockton should secure loose outdoor items and stay weather-aware through the evening.

While this is a lower-end severe threat, storms may quickly intensify. The region’s saturated ground could worsen flooding in areas that saw rainfall earlier this week.

Warnings remain possible through early Saturday. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts for real-time updates.
