Springfield, MO – Residents across southwest Missouri should prepare for a chilly start to the weekend, with widespread frost expected both Friday and Sunday mornings, according to the National Weather Service in Springfield.

Forecasters say the best chances for frost will occur overnight Thursday into Friday morning, when temperatures drop into the mid to upper 30s. A second, potentially stronger round of frost is forecast Saturday night into Sunday morning, as lows fall into the low to mid-30s.

According to the National Weather Service, areas with clear skies and light winds will see the greatest frost potential, especially in rural and valley locations. Cities across the Ozarks — including Springfield, Branson, and West Plains — could experience patchy frost Friday morning, becoming more widespread by the end of the weekend.

Residents are advised to cover or bring in sensitive plants and ensure outdoor pets have warm shelter. This frost event marks one of the first significant cold snaps of the season, signaling a shift toward more November-like temperatures early next week.
