Missouri – Wet highways and slower commutes are likely across the Show-Me State through Feb 23-27 as a warm front lifts north and spreads steady rain from west to east.
According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, temperatures across the central Plains and Midwest are expected to trend near to slightly above seasonal averages during the Feb 23-27 period, while precipitation probabilities run above normal. As milder air surges in from the south, rain will dominate statewide, reducing the risk of wintry precipitation.
Kansas City and communities along I-70 may see periods of steady rainfall that create ponding on low-lying roads and reduce visibility during peak travel times. St. Louis and areas along I-44 could experience occasional heavier bursts, leading to slower traffic and minor street flooding in poor-drainage areas. Springfield and southern Missouri will likely turn milder quickly, keeping conditions all rain as the warm front advances.
MoDOT crews may monitor flood-prone roadways and drainage systems where debris could block runoff. Drivers should slow down on wet pavement, use headlights during heavier rain and avoid driving through standing water.
Additional updates may follow as the warm, wet pattern continues through Feb 23-27.
