Missouri starts the day under clear skies and calmer winds, but the quiet feel is misleading. A sharp shift is already in motion, with warmer air quickly replaced by Arctic cold and growing snow potential for the Kansas City area.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, temperatures climb into the mid-40s today under sunshine. Winds remain noticeable at times, but conditions stay dry. That brief warmth fades fast tonight as temperatures drop into the mid-20s, allowing any moisture on roads to refreeze.

Thursday stays bright but cooler. Highs reach near 40 before colder air pours in late. By Thursday night, temperatures fall into the single digits, and north winds strengthen, making it feel even colder.

Friday marks the arrival of the Arctic blast. Daytime highs struggle near the low teens. Wind chills dip into the single digits, possibly colder in open areas. Roads remain dry, but cold pavement becomes a concern for traction.

Snow chances increase Friday night into Saturday. Light snow is possible across the metro, with chances continuing through the day Saturday. Accumulations remain uncertain, but even minor snowfall could create slick roads. Bridges, ramps, and untreated surfaces may ice over quickly as temperatures stay well below freezing.

Saturday afternoon highs hover near 10 degrees. Little melting is expected. Saturday night falls into the low single digits, increasing the risk of flash freezing where snow compacts or briefly melts.

Sunday brings quieter weather but lingering cold. Sunshine returns, with highs near 20. Winter remains firmly in control heading into next week.

Looking ahead, the 6–10 day outlook keeps Missouri below normal, with additional precipitation chances returning as cold air remains locked across the central U.S.
