Missouri — Gray skies hang low across the Kansas City metro this morning, and damp pavement signals a wet, changing pattern. Light rain develops early and spreads steadily, coating roads and sidewalks as temperatures hover well above freezing.

According to the National Weather Service, rain becomes widespread through the day with near 100 percent coverage at times. Some areas could pick up close to an inch of rainfall, especially across the northern half of Missouri. Gusty southeast winds may reach 20 mph, pushing mist and spray across highways like I-70, I-35, and U.S. 71. Reduced visibility and slick lanes are likely during heavier showers.

Temperatures stay mild today, topping out near 60 degrees. That warmth won’t last. Rain tapers later, and cooler air filters in tonight. By Friday, clouds linger with highs dropping into the mid-40s. Roads may remain damp, setting the stage for colder impacts ahead.

Friday night brings a shift. A rain and snow mix becomes possible late, especially north of downtown and toward the Missouri–Kansas line. While accumulations look light, melting during the day followed by colder air raises concerns for flash freezing. Bridges and overpasses could turn slick quickly after sunset.

Saturday feels noticeably colder. Highs stay near 40, with a chance for spotty flurries or sprinkles early. Skies clear Saturday night, and lows dip into the low 20s. Black ice becomes a real risk before sunrise Sunday.

Sunday delivers sunshine but little warmth. Highs reach the mid-30s, and the cold lingers into early next week before gradual warming returns.

Meteorologists say conditions could change fast after dark this weekend. Plan extra travel time, slow down on wet roads, and watch shaded pavement closely.
