Springfield, MO – Strong winds and dry conditions have prompted a Red Flag Warning across southeastern Kansas and southwestern Missouri, including Springfield. Winds up to 35 mph combined with low humidity are increasing the risk of wildfires.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Springfield, the warning is in effect until 6 PM today. Residents should avoid outdoor burning and take precautions to prevent sparks from igniting dry vegetation.

Additionally, wind gusts between 25 and 40 mph will impact travel, especially for high-profile vehicles. Loose objects may become airborne, and tree limbs could break. Winds are expected to shift northwest later in the evening.

Temperatures will return to near normal for the weekend before warming again early next week. By Wednesday, rain and thunderstorms are expected.

Drivers should remain cautious, and residents are urged to secure outdoor items. For updates, visit weather.gov/springfield.
