Kansas City, MO – A warm-up early this week across Missouri will be short-lived as strong to severe storms are expected to arrive late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, a slight risk for severe thunderstorms exists across much of central and western Missouri beginning Tuesday evening, April 1, and continuing through the overnight hours. Forecasters say the main threats include large hail and damaging wind gusts, with storms most likely to develop late Tuesday and persist into early Wednesday morning.

Temperatures will rise into the 50s and 60s on Tuesday and peak in the 60s and low 70s by Wednesday before a cold front moves through. That front is expected to drop temperatures back into the 50s late in the week and heading into the weekend.

Residents in areas such as Kansas City, Warrensburg, Columbia, and surrounding counties should monitor local alerts and be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions. Secure outdoor objects and avoid travel during storm hours if possible.

NWS officials encourage residents to have multiple ways to receive warnings overnight and to stay updated as new forecast information becomes available.
