ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Drivers and residents across Missouri should prepare for daily thunderstorm chances stretching into next week, with Monday marking the most widespread impacts.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, storms will build Sunday afternoon and intensify into Sunday night, bringing heavy rain and lightning. By Monday, September 22, showers and thunderstorms are likely across much of eastern and central Missouri, creating hazards for commuters on Interstates 70 and 55.
Localized flooding on low-lying roads and poor visibility during rush hour are possible. NWS forecasters advise residents to allow extra travel time and avoid water-covered roadways. Outdoor events should have backup shelter plans ready.
Storm coverage remains possible each day through Friday, with varying intensity. While severe weather is not guaranteed, frequent lightning, gusty winds, and downpours could disrupt travel and outdoor activities. Spotter activation is not currently anticipated but could be requested if storm strength increases.
Southwest Illinois, including communities such as Edwardsville and Belleville, will also see repeated storm chances. Residents in both states should keep phones charged and stay alert for updated advisories.
Warm, muggy conditions continue despite the rain, with highs in the mid-80s early in the week before cooling slightly by midweek.
