ST. LOUIS, Mo. — A noticeable shift toward milder temperatures is expected across Missouri during Valentine’s Day weekend, as highs climb above freezing while an active weather pattern keeps the chance for rain and snow in the forecast through Feb. 20.

Friday and Saturday highs are forecast to reach the mid-30s to near 40 degrees across much of the state, including the St. Louis metro area. Southern Missouri could see temperatures push into the low 40s at times, while northern portions of the state remain slightly cooler. Overnight lows will generally fall back into the 20s, maintaining refreezing concerns during the late night and early morning hours.

With temperatures hovering near the freezing mark, precipitation type will vary throughout the period. Several weak systems are expected to move through the central Plains and Midwest, bringing opportunities for light precipitation. In central and southern Missouri, precipitation may fall as rain during the warmest parts of the day before mixing with or changing to snow overnight. Northern Missouri is more likely to see predominantly snow or a rain-snow mix.

Significant snow accumulations are not currently expected, but minor accumulations and patchy slick conditions remain possible, particularly during nighttime and early morning travel. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads could become slippery if temperatures drop quickly following precipitation.

The milder pattern is expected to persist into early next week, with daytime temperatures remaining near or slightly above seasonal averages through Feb. 20. While winter is far from over, this stretch offers a temporary break from more extreme cold.

Travelers and residents should continue to monitor forecast updates, as small temperature changes could influence precipitation type and localized travel impacts during the Valentine’s Day period.
