ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Drivers heading out late tonight face wet roads and potential delays as storms sweep across eastern Missouri. Thunderstorms could slow traffic along I-70 and I-64, especially during the overnight hours.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, showers and storms will develop after 4 p.m. Wednesday and peak between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. A few storms may turn strong, with heavy downpours reducing visibility for late commuters and air travelers at Lambert International Airport. Rain chances taper off by early Thursday morning as cooler, drier fall air pushes in.

Thursday brings calmer skies with sunshine returning and highs near 77. Winds will shift north at 6 to 8 mph, keeping humidity lower and conditions more comfortable. Overnight lows will dip into the low 60s, a noticeable break from recent muggy nights.

By Friday, mostly sunny skies dominate with only a slight chance of lingering showers. The weekend looks favorable for outdoor plans, including high school football and festivals, with highs in the upper 70s and lows in the mid-50s. Sunshine will continue into early next week, providing several days of ideal late-summer, early-fall weather.

Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel tonight during the heaviest rain and to check road conditions before driving. More updates may follow if stronger storms develop.
