St. Louis residents face another round of summer-like heat before relief comes in the form of late-week storms. Highs will climb into the mid-90s Wednesday and Thursday, pushing the heat index near 100 and raising health concerns.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, an Air Quality Alert remains in place, urging sensitive groups to limit outdoor activity. The agency also warns that calm conditions will give way to more humidity and storm chances by late Thursday night into Friday.

Wednesday will bring sun and a high near 93, followed by an even hotter Thursday near 96. By Thursday night, clouds will build with a 20% chance of showers. The chance grows to 40% on Friday as thunderstorms develop, potentially impacting morning commuters on I-70 and I-64.

The unsettled pattern continues into the weekend. Scattered showers are expected Friday night through Sunday, keeping skies cloudy and temperatures cooler in the mid-80s. Residents should prepare for slick roads, delays at Lambert International Airport, and possible outdoor event disruptions.

Officials urge drivers to check conditions before traveling and to stay hydrated in the midweek heat. Those with respiratory issues should limit time outdoors while the air quality remains poor.

More rain chances linger through early next week, though temperatures will moderate.
