Missouri residents should prepare for snow and bitter cold next week as a winter storm moves into the region. The National Weather Service in Springfield reports a 50-75% chance of measurable snow Tuesday into Wednesday. Accumulations of at least one inch appear likely, but totals remain uncertain.
According to the NWS, temperatures will drop sharply behind the system, with a 75-85% probability of single-digit lows Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Wind chills may push temperatures even lower.
By the weekend, temperatures will fall 15 to 25 degrees below normal, with wind chills dipping below zero. Saturday night temperatures will range from 10 to 25 degrees, with Sunday bringing highs of only 20 to 33 degrees. Sunday night could see lows between 7 and 15 degrees.
Residents should dress in layers, bring pets indoors, and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure. The NWS also urges caution when using space heaters and advises against running generators indoors.
