St. Louis, MO – Severe thunderstorms are expected to impact Missouri this evening, with the most intense weather occurring between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. today. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a warning for large hail, damaging winds, and the potential for tornadoes, with the storm system expected to track south of the St. Louis area.

According to the NWS, the greatest threat for severe weather will be in the Enhanced Risk zone, including areas south of I-44 in Missouri and I-70 in Illinois. Confidence is growing that these storms will remain to the south of central Missouri, but residents in the affected areas should remain vigilant.

In addition to the thunderstorms, heavy rainfall is expected to bring flash flooding to parts of Missouri and Illinois. Up to 2-4 inches of rain could accumulate, particularly in areas south of I-44 in Missouri. The NWS urges residents to avoid driving on flooded roads and to take precautions as water levels could rise quickly.

As the storm system moves through, residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and be prepared to take shelter in sturdy buildings if a tornado warning is issued. Travel should be avoided in areas experiencing heavy rainfall, and safety measures should be taken in advance of the severe conditions.
