Springfield, MO – Thunderstorms are expected to sweep through southwest Missouri Saturday night into early Sunday, bringing the potential for severe weather conditions, including hail the size of ping pong balls and wind gusts up to 60 mph.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, the strongest storms could hit areas including Joplin, Lebanon, West Plains, and Rolla. The threat is forecast to persist overnight until early Sunday, March 23, 2025. Rainfall totals are expected to range between 0.25 and 0.50 inches across the region, with some localized spots seeing up to 0.75 inches.

Residents across southern and central Missouri should remain alert for rapidly changing weather conditions. Localized power outages and minor structural damage are possible, especially in areas hit by high winds or hail.

The National Weather Service advises Missourians to review severe weather safety plans and ensure multiple alert systems are active, including NOAA Weather Radio and mobile emergency notifications.

Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads and monitor road conditions, especially overnight. Strong wind gusts could also impact high-profile vehicles.

This system aligns with the region’s typical spring storm pattern, but officials stress that isolated storms could turn severe quickly. Further updates are expected throughout Saturday evening and into Sunday morning.
